{Not Spoiler Free}
Owari no Seraph is not for the faint of heart that's for sure. It's full of political power struggles, moral internal struggle,s and just so many struggles in general. There's struggles to keep their family together and alive and there's struggles to just keep sanity. The whole sick notion of orphanages, places where children are supposed to be safe, are actually labs to turn children into angels is sick. Whoever came up with this series is a mad genius I say. It's so incredibly riveting that I easily binged it all at once. It's amazing the amount of complexity in the series. There's people that they trust like Guren who has a dual personality so that leads to trust issues. Then there's the loyalty of if they're going to follow the leaders of the Demon Army or if they're going to do what they think is right. Mika's struggle with himself to keep from drinking blood killed me. And when Yu sacrificed his blood because of his strong feelings for his family that was it for me. All the stupid stupid political things like Guren why did he have to choose to experiment on kids to make them angels to change the world? Why not start with recycling or something? Ugh.
Even though the number one thing I pay attention to is the plot, the art was great. The fighting scenes had me holding my breath. Although there was kind of too much stabbing without them dying. I don't know, maybe since all their demons heal them then it's okay, but I still feel like the stabbing was a bit excessive and they all just kind of nonchalantly brushed off being stabbed in the abdomen. But if they're all able to be healed by their demons then why did the people in Narumi's team die?
Also the unique perspective of angels being worse than demons was quite weird. Although after watching this it just makes you question which side you should really be supporting. Angels or demons? Actually speaking about that kind of thing I kind of wonder whether or not the Demon Army or the vampires are worse. Because both sides treat others terribly. Hmmm... And can we just talk about the ending? Who decided to stop it at such an ambiguous place? I'm trying to patiently wait for the next season where hopefully they will continue this because I just have to know how all of this ends. Just gotta give a nod to the small details of how it ended with Yu wading out into the ocean (but why though?) and saying that it was starting to rain and then the opening of the ED had him in the dark holding a flame. That was a nice touch.
RIP Mika's beautiful eyes
