Anime Review 13 Bungo Stray Dogs

Recently I've been picking up all these series that I started, but never finished. I watched the first episode a while back when the series first came out, but just forgot about it because I'm easily distracted. I remember back in the day when 12 episodes seemed like so much, but now I'm craving more even though that'd be really bad because that'd mean that I spend more and more time binging...or is that a bad thing?

Admittedly I used to be adverse to anime with gangs in it and whatnot (I know I'm a very prejudiced person I'm sorry) but K changed me. My first impression of this while I was watching the first episode was that I definitely didn't see Atsushi being the weretiger. That was a huge surprise. Also I thought Dazai was an annoying lunatic which didn't really motivate me to watch further than that episode. However, when I came back to the series and watched the whole thing through I can say that I have a new-found respect for Dazai. He left the Port Mafia for the Armed Detective Agency to do good for the world. Props to him. Even though he is a suicide-obsessed maniac, he's worthy of respect.

The overall pacing of the story was good. There was never a dull moment. There was always a new case to be solved, a new character to be introduced or a new part of the mystery to be unveiled. I think that all of their powers are super cool; they're very original and sometimes surprising like Junichiro, by the way his use of power multiple times to save the day ie when Higuchi tried to kill them in the back alley and again when Lucy went on her rampage in her alternate realm was super ingenius. That guy is underappreciated for sure. And plot twist when it turns out that Ranpo actually doesn't have a gift. That guy is super sharp, I see why he gets so much respect at the Agency. Also Kenji is super adorable. When he and Atsushi go to solve the car bomb case, his approach to the problem was so nonchalant. Literally such a cool guy. Only dangerous when hungry. The new danger of being hangry (hungry angry). Even though I love Kenji, I think my favorite character is Kunikida. Him and Dazai make an amazing team and the side story of him watching over Taguchi warmed my heart. He was trying to compensate because he felt guilty about Taguchi's father's death. And when Taguchi sacrificed himself instead of letting anyone else get killed...the feels.

As you can see, I feel very attached to these characters and their little quirks. The mysteries in this series are quite intriguing and kept me pressing 'watch next episode' because I just had to know what happened next.
