Anime ATM 59 K: Missing Kings

I've been a roll lately, checking off all the shows on my "to watch" list this summer, maybe because subconsciously I know that during the school year I'm going to have to hustle hard. Whatever it is I'm really enjoying watching all the shows I've been meaning to watch.

Fun fact is that I didn't actually watch this in the order you're supposed to because first you're supposed to watch K and then this movie and then K: Return of Kings. I just dived right into the second season because I didn't do enough research. Honestly though I wouldn't say that it's necessary to watch this movie in order to watch K: Return of Kings. They do a great introduction as always, so the only reason you'd need to watch it in order would be because you're a perfectionist or something. Otherwise watch at your own leisure whatever in whatever order. It's not like Fate/Stay Night where you have to watch it in a certain order or Star Wars where you can watch it chronologically or by production date or whatever.

I love the entire universe of K. I'm simply in love. Just visually the coloring that's added to so many of the scenes just adds this pop of wow that it wouldn't otherwise have. I'm all for a pop of color, but the melding of the colors that didn't scream something tacky like "Rainbow!" but instead something more harmonious because of the dark muted tones or light blending it together made it beautiful.

With the introduction of JUNGLE that's what I realized I missed because in season 2 it's like wow where'd this clan come from? All of the clans have their different dynamics. Like HOMRA is all about this gang-like mafia style (is that repetitive? Not sure). I mean their slogan "No blood. No bone. No ash." really says everything it needs to. They're intensely loyal and treat each other like family. Of course it's not as intimate as the Silver Clan which consists of 2 vassals and their King. That bond is tighter and seems more miscellaneous in a nice kitsch sort of way. And SCEPTER 2 is the actual coolest. Every time they unsheathe their swords for battle or when they're saluting someone it's just such an impact. It's a more business-like relationship between the members of the Blue Clan, but they all respect one another. Plus their section of the city is all blue which give such jivin' vibes. And then JUNGLE's dynamic is so different. It's not able building each other up per say, but more about building yourself up in a competitive setting. That's what makes it all the more unsettling.

This whole piece was very transitional. It was the search for Shiro for the Silver Clan and Shiro's decision to stop running away. It was the rise of the new Red King (Go Anna!) and the recollection of the Red Clan. It was the rising threat of the Green Clan and the introduction of its members. It was the rise in power and responsibility for the Blue King with the Gold King MIA aka dying.

I just have to add it in here that this movie is a definite advancement in Fushimi and Yata. Just had to say that because at the end when the Red and Blue Kings are talking and Yata's trying to say thanks to Fushimi for the intel his blush was so cute and if you try to deny it I will show you that clip on repeat.

Overall if you're a fan of K and everything about K you must've already watched this. If you're not so sure about the whole K fantasy world then just give it a chance. It's my favorite fantasy anime. It's the absolute best. There's so much loyalty, power, and just interrelations between characters that really make this a must-watch!!!!

Anime Review 2 K: Return of Kings

Hello everyone,
I'd like to just say before I jump into blog post no. 2 about anime that I have been baking, but haven't felt like they were successful enough to share with the people of the Internet quite yet. Still searching for a bomb tart crust recipe.

Firstly, I am aware that there's a first season to this, but I've already run out of things to hype about since I watched it. I tried to be a responsible student and held off from watching it since spring. BUT NOW I'VE WATCHED IT AND THE HYPE IS REAL. THE HYPE IS SO STRONG. My feelings about this run very very strong. I was so tempted to watch this all in one sitting like I (guiltily) did with the first season, but I told myself that I should only watch a couple each day, aka I spread it out over 3 days while I placated myself by reading other manga (is this great self-control or what?).

I love the art and the aesthetic. But even more than the visuals of this, I love the story. The whole concept of this alternate world with kings and their entire world to be quite honest are absolutely mind-blowing. Beyond this, the plot twist and the 'wtf' moments kept me so entertained throughout. I loved the fact that the Green Clan's hideout was literally underground but it looked like an apartment room from the outside. I absolutely adore all the characters, even the ones you're really not supposed to like, for example the Green King. Whoever writes these things is such a genius. With only 13 episodes, the production manages to make you emotionally invested into every single character. My feelings can't handle this kind of emotional duress. But it was so worth it. This season of K kept me constantly engaged, constantly thinking to myself 'oh my god what's next' and had me about to throw my phone across the room (I don't recommend doing that by the way) half the time. Just the fact that I was so emotionally invested in these characters was really the clincher. I think if you had no soul you probably would think this sucked, but as for me the fact that Fushimi pretended to be a betrayer, but was actually showing how deep his commitment to the Blue King killed me I say, KILLED ME. And Awashima's commitment to the Blue King too? I ship it, even though first season I would've sworn that Red King Mikoto and Blue King Munakata were soul mates. That to me was just such a great OTP. Actually the real OTP this time around was Fushimi and Misaki. Their scene together in the 12th episode killed me. Shiro, Neko, and Kuro's clan name is so amazing; the White Rice Party is definitely the number one clan. (Side note though, Neko and Awashima's fan service was completely unnecessary. I loathe fan service because with such a great story line, amazing art, and life-like characters I don't see the need to tarnish that with needless panty shots and cleavage  =_=")

Also with the last episode I was praying that Shiro would come back. I hate it when they end with 'he will be with us in our souls forever' because that ending is really overdone and cliche. So, this way ended on a really satisfying note as a the Silver King's White Rice Party eats together. It definitely shows the beauty of the clans and their loyalty to one another, a kind of family based on loyalty rather than blood. Throughout the entire season I got the feeling of seeing a really close family fighting together in order to accomplish something, and conflicting sides joining together to face a super-ordinate goal. All in all, it was really beautiful and it leaves me SUPER HYPED for the next season this October! Now to decide whether I want to wait for all the episodes to come out and then binge watch them all, or if I want to watch them as they come out.
